I have been playing guitar for 12 years and teaching for 1 year and love the process of sharing music with others and helping new musicians learn how to express themselves on an instrument. I currently teach students of a range of ages, therefore in my lessons I adapt to each student to by varying the pace to suit their abilities and level of understanding, and by constantly trying to find the clearest ways of communicating new ideas and concepts if they are struggling.
I enjoy working closely with my students to help them understand the different components and techniques of guitar playing and how to put them together to produce a great sound. Then through discussing with students what styles, artists and songs they like I get an idea of what pieces to teach them that will keep them engaged in learning the guitar and inspired to keep practicing and progressing.
I teach both electric and acoustic guitar in a wide range of styles, mainly I teach rock, blues, folk and pop but I can also touch on soul, funk and jazz. Additionally I can teach students music theory and how to read music if required, although I've found most people are not interested in learning this!
