Private Music Tutor (April 2009 – Present)
James is currently involved in teaching guitar to students of various ages and abilities on a one to one basis. He has taught from ages 5-60 plus & specialises in blues, rock, pop, funk & R&B.
Workshop Leader (17th - 22nd August 2009/23rd -27th August 2010/22nd - 26th August)
In August 2009/2010/2011 James was a Workshop Leader and Mentor for young people aged between 14 and 18 years. This was through the ‘Get Real’ Programme at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The programme is aimed at young people who have an interest in music and are keen to pursue a career in the industry. As a Workshop Leader James was responsible for planning the classes and supporting them throughout the week. The main aims were to get the students to create music together, record them in the studio and have them perform their music on stage at the end of the week in front of their friends and family. During the week we also discussed the music industry as a whole and dealt with some music theory. In order to work at LIPA James was CRB checked.
Function Band Leader (February 2008 – Present)
James has been a Function Band Leader since February 2008. This involves providing live music for various functions such as weddings and corporate events. As a Function Band Leader James is responsible for the marketing of the band, booking events and communicating with the other band members to ensure that they are all available to perform at the function.
Performer (2002 – Present)
Since 16 years old James has worked as a Lead Singer and Guitarist. This experience enabled James to achieve a place on the BA Hons Music degree at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. James has performed in multiple venues across the UK in various bands, duos and on his own. In 2004, James performed on Radio 2 on the Paul Jones show for American Blues artist ‘James Wheeler’ who was in the UK on a tour. In August 2008 he was employed on a contract to perform in Singapore with a professional band led by ‘Toni James’ for a major live music venue called ‘The Arena’. James has held multiple residencies with bands, more recently at London's top club 'The Arts Club' in Mayfair, London. He has played sessions for EMI & is due to commnence his second tour with succesful tribute act 'Rumours Of Fleetwood Mac' in 2013.
James has a good working knowlegde of Logic Pro & has extensive experience in live sound environments.
James is a full-time musician with a vast amount of performance & teaching experience. Having played in numerous bands around the UK & abroad James has the practical knowledge to improve your guitar playing. James studied music to degree level at the Liverpool Institute Of Performing Arts (LIPA) & has recently moved to London to pursue his musical career. More recently James has a become a full-time member of the successful tribute act 'Rumours of Fleetwood Mac' & is due to commence his second UK/European tour with them next year in 2013.
James' style of teaching always caters for the individual & focuses on being a guide to encourage development & enjoyment in his/her guitar playing. Whether it be to learn new songs, help transcribe solo's, develop scale or chord knowledge, improve technique or even develop an individuals composition skills James will format the lesson to whatever the student enjoys & what he feels could enhance their enjoyment on the guitar.
